It is 2025 and the Boston Municipal elections are almost here. The elections for city council will be happening on Tuesday, November 4th, from the hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. One district out of the nine that will be voting for new city councilors has brought a lot of attention towards itself. District four which includes the Dorchester, Mattapan, Roslindale, and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods will be voting between Incumbent Brian Worrell and Helen Cameron.
Brian Worrell
Incumbent Brian Worrell is a native Bostonian and second generation immigrant running to represent district four. Worrell gained a passion for public service after graduating from METCO, A schooling foundation that values racial, socioeconomic and cultural integration above all, providing children in the Boston area with more opportunity for growth. Worrell then went on to graduate from Northeastern University with a bachelors in accounting and entrepreneurship. By becoming a business owner Worrell became familiarized with the ins and outs of the Boston government, which led him to run for city councilor of district four and win in 2021. During his first term Brian was able to secure historic funding for district 4, expand homeownership opportunities through ARPA, Launch a study to analyze how to build more affordable housing pass a home-rule petition to expand access to liquor licenses, and proposed initiatives like the Black and Brown economic empowerment agenda and the Cradle-to-Career.

Campaign Promises
During his 2025 campaign Brian Worrell has his focus set on six main topics. Other than continuing initiatives that were started in his first term, Worrell plans to expand economic opportunity, Deliver High-quality city funded services, promote a safe and healthy community, Tackle the housing crisis, Strengthen the public schools, and invest in the future through infrastructure.

Worrell likes to put emphasis on community and public service. Worrell has set up many community events such as cookouts, concerts, professional networking events, youth basketball tournaments, backpack drives, free haircuts at a local barbershop in Dorchester, and coordinated a COVID vaccine clinic.
Helen Cameron
Helen Cameron is running for her first ever public office position challenging incumbent Brian Worrell. Cameron has lived in Boston for over sixty years and has lived in district four for over twenty-five. Cameron Graduated from a Northeastern masters program that was fully paid by Martin Luther King Jr and also received aid from President John F Kennedy Jr. Cameron has been a dedicated teacher and guidance counselor for urban Boston public schools and suburban METCO schools. After working in education for over twenty five years she ventured on to become a real estate broker. Fluent in English, Spanish, and ASL, Cameron highly values integration of culture especially in a place like district four.
Campaign Promises
During her 2025 campaign Helen Cameron has specifically focussed on the financial disparities in District four. Cameron maintains a campaign philosophy that when focussed on the financials of the people she represents then other aspects of everyday life will fall into place. She claims that most of the people she has met with during her campaign can not afford necessities, claiming that 1 in 3 district four residents live below the mean poverty line. Her main goal is making transportation, food, and housing affordable. In an interview with Boston.com Cameron stated, “If and when I am elected to the Council, I pledge commitment to regular Council meetings and other related duties; expect to answer roll-call and demonstrate strong interest in public service and community engagement.
“I expect to develop a basic understanding of governmental processes and procedures and a high level of integrity and commitment to serving the public interest.”
